The Engine Test Room is made up of two adjacent but detached areas: the engine room and the control room.

The Engine Room

The Engine Room is where the engine undergoing the test is located. A door and an armoured glass window isolate this area from the control room.

The isolation is necessary in order to guarantee the safety of the testers in case of fire, explosions and toxic material bursts, such as exhaust gas, flammable vapours and lubricants. Moreover, it reduces noise transmission towards the control room. The equipment also includes CO2 fire prevention systems.

Control room

In the Control room the operational parameters for the Engine Room equipment are set. This is also where the operational status of the engine and of the connected devices is tested

The Control room hosts the test bench acquisition and control system, as well as the connections to the management systems, such as the software for the engine control panel and the control desks where the start and emergency-stop switches of the Engine Room are located.

Moreover, here is where the regulators controlling the functioning modes of the room (such as the coupled actuator control system, the engine load control system and the engine power control system) are located.

In order to simplify the management of all the different functions of the Control room, the hardware has been connected to a personal computer with a dedicated software. The hardware and software system was developed by TECNOEL, and is named Nikor System.


The Nikor-USB 16-32c acquisition system is made up of two Nikor-USB 16c devices. By the means of a PC and of the NIKOR v. 1.0 software, the system is able to save the data coming from its 32 analogue ports, which collect the values measured by 4-20 mA sensors. It is also able to interact with the external environment through 16 digital input ports and 16 digital output ports. The system can be connected to a PC through a USB port for each one of the Nikor devices installed. The sensors are calibrated through the dedicated software.

Cost Deployment e Kaizen System

AWe developed two projects based on the World Class Manufacturing (WCM), a methodology aiming at continuously improving the production performance, avoiding wastes and improving quality, safety, work conditions and environmental consciousness.


Cost Deployment, the main pillar of WCM, allows to assess which areas of the production process can be improved in order to optimize production and decrease losses and wastes.


Kaizen System allows the employees to submit their own ideas and solutions in order to gradually and continuously improve their own work.
